27 September Moorea

Tuesday 27 September
Our port stop today is Moorea. Now having explained about Papeete and Tahiti, Moorea is just that – Moorea. There are only a couple of small settlements, one where the ferry arrives from Papeete and the one where we tender into. There are no shops, cafes or the like where we tender into, but needless to say when the cruise ships come in, local people come out in numbers to greet passengers and sell their wares.

Today however, was slightly different (though we did not know it in advance) the Prime Minister of French Polynesia was visiting to officially open the new covered dock area. This is where locals gather to greet cruise ship visitors and has recently been finished. So while we were waiting for our transport to the Hilton, the officials all arrived.

Today we had a day planned at the Hilton resort. The weather was perfect and it was a thoroughly relaxing day. You would not believe it, but we encountered another stupid human. Ian had been standing on the shore when he spotted a stingray swimming close by. He called me down, but by the time I arrived an idiot had arrived before me and was bending down to try and touch it! Needless to say the ray took off at a rate of knots! So no photos of a wild stingray.

The pool was probably the best place to be - no sand!

Our day fee at the resort included lunch and this was amazing food served by wonderful Polynesian people.

Our dessert!

Oh yes - definitely yum!
We had a transfer from the ship booked to take us to the Hilton and our return time was 3pm. Perfect timing as we were ready to head back to the ship by then. Right on time he arrived to take us back to the tender.

We had some beautiful views of the ship as we tendered both to and from the ship.

Welcome evening drinks

Not in a good position for a lovely sunset because our time of departure was a little too late

A super relaxing day book ended by two busy days. Tomorrow - Bora Bora
