18 September Kona

Sunday 18 September
Kona – a day to spend just relaxing and snorkelling. We took the local trolley down to Kahalu'u beach where it is recommended to snorkel. The weather was hot a humid – lovely! The snorkelling was not bad, could not spot any turtles sadly but the fish were present in numbers.

We decided to call a cab to take us back which was easier than waiting for the trolley to take the roundabout route back to the ship. The monthly market was just setting up which was interesting to walk through, but the shops proved more fruitful and I was able to buy a new pair of water shoes which I’m sure I will use many times as we have more plans to visit tropical islands as well as Far North Queensland next year.

Our snorkel spot for the day

Hawaii Five-O anyone? This is the real deal!

The weather threatened all day, but we are on the drier side of the island and no rain came

After such a hot day it is always refreshing to return to the ship – with a blast of icy cold air to greet us!

The evening was very clear and from our aft balcony just before retiring for the night, we had this spectacle.
