21 September to Sunday 25 September
Five days
at sea before we reach French Polynesia. The weather had gradually warmed as we
approached Hawaii now we were approaching the Equator. So naturally more people
were gathered on the decks from day one. These are the relaxing days at sea
which we enjoy. There is not a great deal of interest happening on the ship
most days – at least not of interest to us, but there’s always plenty to do.
Of course there's always the gorgeous sunsets which we enjoy while at sea.
On another evening the clouds were so good that the sunset shots were even more beautiful (in my opinion). There are other things on the cruise which appeal - dessert and our towel animals.
However, crossing
the Equator is always a fun day with the ceremony which takes place on all
cruise ships. A person who has not crossed the Equator before is known as a
Pollywog. If you have crossed the Equator you are known as a Shellback. As I
have crossed the Equator a number of times I was in no danger of being called
up to ‘kiss the fish’. Though the participation of passengers is no longer
considered the best approach. It is the crew who have to suffer the indignity
of all the eggs, flour and spaghetti poured upon them. The photos do not do justice to the fun.
Michael (an Aussie), our Hotel Director getting the treatment on the right
Scripted of course, but Michael fights back and all hell breaks loose
Then it is the turn of the Cruise Director, Steve who, up until this point has been the coordinator of the event, but the tables turn (as is expected) and he gets the full treatment
He told us later that it took more than an hour to get himself cleaned up
This beautiful ship affords so many beautiful views of the sea from the many panels of glass all around
